Christ Cathedral Interactive Maps

In 2012, the property of the former Crystal Cathedral was acquired by the Diocese of Orange and launched into a time of campus-wide restoration and renovation into a Catholic space of worship and art, music and culture in Orange County.

Due to the thousands of parishioners, visitors and tourists coming to the 34 acre iconic campus each month, it became necessary to build a map of the campus and the cathedral interior to inform, engage and build anticipation for what the space would become.

Contexture designed a 2.5D map of the campus and provided all the online coding to craft an interactive experience like none other. In addition to the map, individual videos and copywriting for 23 points of interest were also produced to engage visitors with fascinating design details and liturgical meanings behind many key features. The architectural CAD plans for the new cathedral were digitized to create realistic 3D-fly-throughs of the interior, providing an experience that felt truly realistic.

Today, aside from the home page, the map is the most visited feature on the website.
